Westfield Carousel Shopping Centre
Design Aims
Part of the refit of the Coles quarter in Carousel to host more hawker-type eateries, the design and delivery of the new outlet treads a tight balance between highly specific centre requirements and the need to establish a unique cultural identity.

A restrained palette of recycled plywood panels, galvanised steel, rustic teak and concrete becomes the conceptual basis for a very robust nostalgia of ‘dining out’ along Southeast Asia’s famed ‘hawker alleyways’. Traditional thatched paddy farmer’s hats form the feature lighting, while fishing net-like ropes on fenced walls strike a playful reminisce of the region’s economy and cultural mores – as much as they echo the diversity of the fare served by the outlet.
